What you will need

  • Green card (A4)

  • White card for wings

  • Pencil, black and yellow pens, fine liner

  • Wiggle eyes

  • Glue stick and super glue (adult help recommended)

  • Craft sticks

  • Child-safe scissors

How to make your flapping honeybee

1. Cut and fold

Cut a green rectangle for the bee’s body and white card for the wings. Fold the green rectangle in half lengthwise.

2. Make triangles

Fold the corners inward to form triangles, then invert them. Fold the top layer backward as shown in the template or diagram.

3. Draw and colour the bee

On the top layer of the folded card, sketch your bee’s face and body. Colour it with black and yellow pens or crayons.

4. Add eyes and wings

Stick wiggle eyes onto the bee’s face. Draw patterns on the wings and attach them to the triangle folds with glue.

5. Attach craft sticks

Glue a craft stick to the back of the bee. This will let you move the bee and make the wings flap. Allow glue to dry completely.

6. Play

Gently push the stick and watch your honeybee flap its wings!

Quick tips

  • Use sturdy card so the wings move smoothly.

  • Encourage children to decorate their bees with glitter or stickers.

  • Make a whole hive by creating multiple bees for a group activity.
