How To Make A Paper Flower For Mother's Day
Share
Are you going to buy your mother flowers for mother's day again?! That pop of colour that will wilt and die will be forgotten in a matter of days. Save your money and MAKE Mum that bouquet this year! Then she'll have a beautiful bouquet of flowers to enjoy forever.
Let’s get started!
Materials
-
Coloured construction or craft paper
-
Green pipe cleaners
-
Glue stick
-
Safety scissors
-
Pencil (optional, for marking lines)
Tip: Thicker construction paper works best because it holds its shape when rolled.
Step 1: Cut a Paper Strip
Start by cutting a strip of paper about 6–8 inches long and 2 inches wide.
This strip will become the lavender buds, so longer strips will make fuller flowers, while shorter strips create smaller, delicate stems.
Step 2: Make the Fringe
Along one of the long edges, cut small snips across the paper to create a fringe. Stop cutting about half an inch from the bottom so the strip stays in one piece.Try to keep the cuts close together. The more fringe you make, the fluffier your lavender will look.
If younger kids are helping, you can draw light lines to guide their cuts or prepare the fringe ahead of time and remind them to stay on the path not the grass!
Step 3: Add Glue
Apply glue along the uncut bottom edge only. There’s no need to glue the fringe. A thin layer works best, too much glue can make rolling messy.
Step 4: Attach the Stem
Place the tip of a green pipe cleaner at one end of the glued edge. Press it gently into the glue. This will be your flower stem.
Step 5: Roll It Up
Starting at the pipe cleaner end, slowly roll the paper strip around the stem. Keep the roll snug so the flower holds its shape. Lower it along the stem as you go. When you reach the end, press lightly to secure it.
You should now see a bud forming at the top of the stem.
Step 6: Fluff and Shape
Use your fingers to gently spread and fluff the fringe pieces outward. This creates the soft, textured look of lavender.
Bend the pipe cleaner slightly if you want the stem to look more natural. You can twist it back up on itself to give it a leaf.
And that’s it — your paper flower is finished!
