How to Make Sheep Masks for Eid al-Adha – A Fun Craft for Kids Aged 4–7
Share
Eid al-Adha is a wonderful time to celebrate with family, and what better way to involve the little ones than with a creative craft project? Making sheep masks is a brilliant activity that's simple enough for younger children to enjoy, yet engaging enough to keep them entertained. Here's everything you need to know to create adorable sheep masks at home.
What You'll Need
- White card stock or cardboard paper
- Cotton wool or white fluffy material
- Glue stick or craft glue
- Scissors (child-safe if possible)
- Black markers or crayons
- Elastic band or ribbon
- Optional: googly eyes, pink felt for ears
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Create the Base
Cut a large oval or circle shape from white card stock – this will be the sheep's face. Make it big enough to cover your child's face comfortably. Cut out two small eye holes so they can see through the mask.
Step 2: Add the Fluffy Wool
Tear cotton wool into small pieces and glue them all around the edges of the mask to create a woolly border. This gives the sheep its characteristic fluffy appearance. Let the glue dry for a few minutes before moving on.
Step 3: Draw the Face
Using black markers, draw a simple nose and mouth in the centre of the mask. You can make it cute and cartoonish – think a simple oval for the nose and a curved line for a smile. If you have googly eyes, stick them above the nose; otherwise, draw simple dots for eyes.
Step 4: Add the Ears
Cut two small ear shapes from pink felt or card stock and glue them to the top sides of the mask. This completes the sheep's look.
Step 5: Attach the Elastic
Punch or carefully poke two small holes on either side of the mask at ear level. Thread an elastic band through and tie it securely so the mask stays in place when your child wears it.
Tips for Success
Keep the design simple – young children love bold, easy-to-recognise features. If your child struggles with scissors, pre-cut the shapes yourself and let them focus on the fun part: gluing and decorating. Work on a covered surface to contain any glue mess, and have wet wipes handy for quick clean-ups.
This craft is perfect for a group activity too – set up a mask-making station at a family gathering and let all the children create their own unique sheep. It's a lovely way to mark the occasion and give kids something special to wear during celebrations.
