How To Make Your Own Crescent Moon & Star Ramadan Decorations
Share
A Classic Ramadan Symbol You Can Make at Home!
The crescent moon and star are timeless symbols of Ramadan. Elegant and meaningful, they instantly set the tone for the month. This easy paper craft is perfect for decorating windows, walls, or even creating a Ramadan centerpiece — and it’s simple enough for kids to help make.
What You’ll Need
- Coloured paper (gold, silver, navy, or pastel shades)
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or glitter (optional)
- String (if hanging)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Draw a moon
On the back of your paper, draw a large circle. Draw a slightly smaller circle overlapping the first one to form a crescent shape. Then carefully cut along the curved lines to reveal your moon.
Make a small hole near the top of the crescent.
Step 2: Add a Star
Draw and cut out two small stars - you can use a cookie cutter to make this cleaner. Poke a piece of string through the hole in the moon and leave both halves of the string dangling free. Glue the stars together, trapping the string between them like a sandwich.
Step 3: Decorate!
Add glitter, patterns, or write a short dua inside the moon for a meaningful touch.
Step 4: Display Your Decoration
Tape it to a window, mount it on contrasting paper, or hang it using more string!
This craft is simple, symbolic, and stunning. Whether you make one large feature piece or several smaller ones around your home, it’s a lovely way to welcome Ramadan and reflect on its beauty. If you want to keep celebrating, check out our Ramadan themed colouring and activity books.
