Easy Stained Glass Cross Easter Craft for Kids
Share
If you’re looking for a simple Easter craft for kids, this colourful stained glass cross craft is a lovely one to try. It’s bright, colourful, easy to make, and perfect for Good Friday, Easter weekend, or Sunday school activities. Children love filling the cross with vibrant tissue paper, and once it’s finished it looks beautiful hanging in a window where the sunlight can shine through the colours
Step 1 – Cut Out a Cross
Start by drawing a large cross shape onto a piece of black cardstock or construction paper.
Cut it out carefully so you have the full cross shape.
Step 2 – Make the Frame
Now cut out the centre of the cross leaving a thick border around the edges. This will create a frame that holds your colourful stained glass.
Step 3 – Prepare the Tissue Paper
Tear or cut tissue paper into small pieces. Squares and rectangles work really well for this. Don’t worry about being too neat – the mix of shapes and colours actually makes the finished craft look even better.
Step 4 – Add the Sticky Layer
Stick a piece of clear contact paper to the back of the cross frame with the sticky side facing up. If you don’t have contact paper, you can also brush glue over the back of the frame and add the tissue paper that way or use strips of sellotape but be careful as they can be tricky to layer.
Step 5 – Fill the Cross with Colour
Now for the fun part! Place the tissue paper pieces onto the sticky surface, layering different colours as you go. Try to cover the whole space and gently press the pieces down so they lie fairly flat.
Step 6 – Seal the Design (Optional)
If you’d like to protect the craft, place another sheet of contact paper over the top. This helps keep everything in place.
Step 7 – Hang It in the Window
Punch a small hole at the top, add some ribbon or string, and hang your cross in a sunny window. When the light shines through, the tissue paper glows just like stained glass.
